This video consists of "The Guest House" written by a poet named Rumi.  This poem has inspired me to have a mindful and positive mindset each and everyday.  It focuses on accepting what is around you and to even "meet them at the door laughing and let them in".  The whole idea of this poem is to understand that in the end things will be okay.  It allows me to believe that the universe has a plan and that everything is meant to be...

Performance Art

The idea of this performance art was to basically go out of the norm and shop backwards.  Even though I didn't get to many odd looks, I'm sure some people thought I was acting pretty stage.  Overall this project was a little tough to come up with, but once I got my idea, it was actually loads of fun.

ELECTRONIC – PRODUCER/DJ CULTURE - Martijn Garritsen, aka Martin Garrix is a world renowned DJ who has set himself at the top of the ladder in regards to electronic dance music.  Martin has been a very inspirational DJ for me and has given the younger generation of listeners something to be proud of.

GIRL POWER - London Grammar, has hit festivals throughout the world, not only in the alternative genres but also in the field of electronic dance music.  The lead singer, Hannah Reid has a voice like no other, which really sets here apart from other female artists.  The music created by this group puts listeners into a somewhat trance state. :)

TECHNO - Jon Hopkins, in my opinion is king of electronic/techno music.  His music which is created by the use of synths creates an iconic instrumental atmosphere for any moment.  Likewise to London Grammar, this artists completely sets listeners into a new world.  The instrumentals that Jon Hopkins creates is by far one of the most unique sounds around.

NINETIES - Coldplay, the greatest rock band of all time, consists of lead singer, Chris Martin, guitarist, Jonny Buckland, bassist, Guy Berryman, and drummer Will Champion.  Since 1998, Coldplay has generated a total of 7 Grammy Awards, created 7 albums, and have sold over 80 million records sold.  This band has created a broad range of music styles ranging from slow ballads to heart pumping stadium anthems.  They've experienced many iconic moments including headlining the Super Bowl 49 Halftime Show and even playing the MainStage at Glastonbury Music Festival.  Coldplay will always have a special place in my heart and have created music that will stick with me through the rest of my life!

Punk - Green Day has evolved as one of the greatest punk bands around. The lead singer, Bill Joey Armstrong brings out a very unique atmosphere to the band.  They've been around for decades and played sold out tons of sold out shows through out the world.

Xerox Project

Ever since I was three years old, one of my favorite things to do is ski.  For my Xerox art project, I decided to use my hands and feet to design a mountain with a snow covered summit.  The mountains are a place where I can become free with nature and explore the beautiful surroundings around me.  I decided to do this for my project because without have mountains, the lifestyle that I call "skiing" wouldn't exist.  It has been a huge part of my life that has helped me build friendships, memories, and even has allowed me to visit parts of the world I never would have imagined.

Flip Book

My flip book revolved around the theme of Halloween with two characters from the Nightmare Before Christmas.  Since my drawing skills aren't up to par with other students in the class, I was worried how it would compare to the other students in class.  But after taking the time to do this project, it came to me that not everyone has the same creative skills.  If I did the best I could with the skills I have, then I need to be proud with the work I created.  Even though this activity was time consuming, it was a very interesting and fun project that was definitely worth doing.

Electronics

During the 21st century, there have been many technological advancements and creations that have been a very beneficial part of a human being’s lifestyle.  Most of these different types of technology have been influenced by previous inventions from past decades.  The ultimate goal of all types of technologies is to influence future endeavors and help pave for a brighter and smarter future.  Lighting, has been a simple technique used in anything from musical shows to entertainment performance for many years.  It has paved way for these industries by implementing a scenic atmosphere that is ideal for the theming or setting being portrayed.  Whether it be a dark and dramatic scene, or an energetic and happy scene, lighting can do the job.
The whole idea of “light” started with the sun and its color spectrum, and slowly evolved into man made lighting, such as torches or lamps.  In 1879, an inventor named Thomas Edison ventured to create the first electric light-bulb, which helped start this whole trend of “lighting.”  This was then followed by the creation of the highly popular fluorescent light bulb that helped form high intensity discharge lamps in the 20th century.  Now in the 21st century, a light-emitting diode, otherwise known as an LED has stepped its game up to be the top competitor in lighting.
LED’s have helped set the tone for the basis of lighting and what it should be.  These energy efficient and bright lights are not only important to many theatrical performances and shows, but also within households throughout the world.  This type of lighting is very energy efficient and doesn’t produce much heat, which means it is very safe.  LED lights are being used everywhere and have a very long life that gives users a quality product.  An example of a user of LED lighting, would be the band, Coldplay and a man named Jason Regler.  In 2011, Coldplay started providing fans with LED, light changing wristbands.  This type of invention had stemmed from the notion of rock fans holding up lighters at a concert.  These interactive bands are computerized and designed to go along with the music being played at each show.  The band, as well as Regler wanted to create a new type of technological way to use LED lighting, while having the mindset of bringing people closer to the performances.

The idea of lighting has progressed significantly through the years as decades have gone by.  Every different type of light has helped pave the way towards the evolution of this technological advancement.  This can be said with any sort of modern day technology in the 21st century.  Each and every single invention on this earth has started small and has grown to what it is today, something that once was unimaginable.  That means that even today’s inventions can transform and create an even better future for mankind.

Pjotr Sapegin

The short video inspired by Pjotr Sapegin's, Madame Butterfly, depicts a real world situation in animation form. It is very interesting to see how much the woman is affected when the man sails away. This powerful animation shows the impact certain decisions have on people and how every single individuals needs others in life, or else they'll just whither away, similar to a butterfly. The ambient sound of opera playing in the background throughout the video helps suggest a message of downright sadness in regards to the main character. Even without any dialogue between the individuals, the visuals help provide a perfect basis to the meaning of the story.

Opera

Gianni Schicchi

An opera, is “an extended dramatic composition, in which all parts are sung to instrumental accompaniment, that usually includes arais, choruses, and recitatives, and that sometimes includes ballet.” (dictionary.com) Operas date back to the Roman revivals during the Renaissance period and have evolved through the years with the addition of technology and improved creative direction being the basis of its development. (historyworld.net)
On December 14th, 1918 the premiere of “Gianni Schicchi” debuted at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, NY. This opera takes place in Florence, Italy during 1299 and was taken from a passage from Dante’s Inferno. The basis of the opera surrounds the theme of a man named Buiso Donati who had recently died. His family members intended to pay tribute to him, until they found out that he left a will. Unfortunately, it wasn’t for them and instead was given to the monks in Santa Reparata. In the meantime, there was a love affair being frowned upon, between Rinuccio and a girl named Lauretta, which in fact was a plan to help get the will.  With this being set aside, a man named Gianni Schicchi was brought along to fake that Donati was still alive. This was just an effort to regain ownership of the will.  In the end, the two “lovers” were able to marry, and Gianni Schicchi was unethically given the mule, the house, and the mills.
The majority of the opera took place in a “bedroom” scene with Buiso Donati’s family surrounded around him. The technology used included a movable bed and even a background that depicted a city in the distance. Even though the lighting wasn’t anything out of the ordinary, the use of a single floodlight sure helped keep the play simple and not overshadowed by unnecessary light. This show, in my opinion must have been unique for its time especially due to the comedic aspect of the performance. Even though comedy is very popular nowadays, this opera received many positive reviews when it first came out. It seemed to be something very different than the generic opera at that time, which in my opinion interested many people to go see it.
This specific piece of opera, just like any opera written, plays a very important role in the evolution of art through the years. While watching this opera, I discovered a song that truly stood out compared to the others. It is called, O mio babbino caro, (“Oh My Beloved Father”) and is performed when Lauretta is begging her father to let her stay with Rinuccio even if stress was being brought up. With this being said, this song, as well as the opera Gianni Schicchi are still being “remembered” in the modern day era of art. Art is anything creatively done or put together with the effort to show a bold statement or message to others. This can range from a theatrical performance all the way up to a musical concert performed by legendary bands. The song, O mio babbino caro, has been played before every single one of Coldplay’s new, “A Head Full of Dreams” tour shows. It has also been in commercials for Halloween Horror Nights, at Universal Orlando Resort, which is done by a very artistic team of creative individuals. These two examples help show that even though opera has dated back many years, it still has a physical impact on many artistic events today.
If I were to be a director in the 21st century, this opera could easily be put into a video game that would interest the modern generation. This would be a single player, action-horror adventure game where the person playing has full control of the decisions being made by the protagonist. Buiso Donati has come back from the dead to confront those who have “wronged” him and in this case you are the one his spirit is after. The goal is to venture through his old and deranged town where is entity still hovers. During each level, the goal is to get through the evil spell that has been set on the character the “player” portrays. This includes anything from fighting off a ward of sinister minions that have been brought forth, to finding clues and escaping a paranormal ridden room, or even facing the man himself, Buiso Donati, in an ultimate final battle. Nowadays, people have an increased interest in horror. This game is going to help set the tone for horror and give a very eerie feel for whoever may decide to play.

Gianni Schicchi, as shown is a very interesting opera that has evolved through the years. Similar to other operas, it is still remembered and shown today, but most certainly has a more modernized feel which relates to the generation of its viewers. Operas in general have been a very important part of the history and could be considered to be one of the very first forms of proper entertainment. It has been a basis for many things today and without the start of “opera” our modern day artistic culture would most certainly not be where it is.
